Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Lightly oil a 7 X 11 inch baking pan or spray with a nonstick cooking spray.
  • Cook noodles according to package directions. Drain.
  • While noodles are cooking, heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook, stirring frequently, until onion begins to brown, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat.
  • In a large bowl, combine cottage cheese, yogurt, paprika, salt, pepper and onion powder. Mix well. Add onion mixture and cooked noodles. Mix until well combined. Spoon mixture into prepared casserole. Press noodles down gently with the back of a spoon.
  • Sprinkle with paprika.
  • Cover and bake 25 minutes. Uncover and bake 5 minutes more.

  • Carefully remove the cabbage leaves from the head trying to keep them as intact as possible. Remove any stem or core parts from the leaves (Your end goal is to have large pieces of cabbage leaves with no hard parts or stems).
  • In a small saucepan add the rice and 1 1/2 cups of water, bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Cover with a lid, reduce heat to low and cook for 10 minutes. Take off the heat and let rest 15 minutes. DO NOT REMOVE THE LID during any of this process.
  • Place cabbage leaves in a large pot with 1/4 tsp salt and just enough water to cover the cabbage. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat and cook until cabbage is tender. Take off the heat and drain the cabbage, set aside.
  • In a dutch oven or large pan cook the bacon, onion and garlic over medium heat until onion begins to brown and bacon begins to crisp, about 8 minutes. Add the pork, 1/4 cup water, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp pepper, and paprika and cook until pork is cooked, stirring often, breaking up the ground pork and scraping the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon to release any stuck on bits, about 6 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste.

  • Break the cabbage into leaves, clean carefully and remove the hard parts by cutting a narrow v-shape into the middle of the leaf. Cook in salted water until soft (15-20 minutes), then drain.
  • Meanwhile sautee the diced onions and minced garlic in vegetable oil over low heat, stirring frequently, until translucent. Do not let them burn. Salt lightly to help tenderize them.
  • Add the minced meat, the paprika powder, season with ground black pepper, salt to taste. Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently, then pour in 100 ml of water, cover and cook for another 15-20 minutes.
  • For the rice: in a pan heat 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil, add the rice and roast it for a minute until the grains brighten up, stirring frequently. Pour in 1,5 cups of water, salt to taste, cover the pot and turn the heat down to low.
  • Grease a medium size baking dish. Put a double layer of savoy cabbage on the bottom, then spread half of the cooked rice and half of the cooked meat.
